Retina Ophthalmic Assistant


This is an exciting opportunity for a Retina Ophthalmic Assistant to join the team at Pacific Eye Surgeons. The Retina Technician will work with a Group of Ophthalmologists who specialize in medical and surgical treatment for Retina disorders. The Retina Ophthalmic Assistant cares for patients by performing various procedures and tests including OCT's, injection and eye laser set up, Tonometry, Fluorescein Angiograms, and Pre-Op appointments. The position will be work in both our San Luis Obispo and Paso Robles locations.

Responsibilities:
Acquaint all new patients with the office procedures to which they will be exposed. Inform patients of the purpose of all tests personally performed and how they will be affected during the tests.
Perform accurate and consistent documentation, which is clearly legible.
Review proper use of medications with patients.
Make sure patients know how to check vision at home, including the use of the Amsler grid.
Communicate effectively with all patients in a professional and courteous manner; act as a role model to fellow employees in this regard. Acquaint patients with the office procedures; inform them of the purpose of all tests to be performed and how they will be affected during these tests.
Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, past history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications.
Perform accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks to include:
Test patient's far acuity and near acuity.
Perform pinhole test, cover test, version test, check pupil size, shape and abnormalities.
Perform OCT's, injection and eye laser set up, Tonometry, Fluorescein Angiograms (a plus) and Pre op's.
Perform visual field test, tonometry, topography, auto refraction, pachymetry, Schirmer tear test, color vision test, stereo test, keratometry and manifest refractions.
Read patient's glasses on lensometer and clean glasses.
Write out prescriptions for glasses and medications.
Dilate patients as appropriate for type of exam, and ordered per M.D.
Assist with office surgical procedures, including room set-up and cleaning.
Prepare biopsies for the lab and call lab for pick-up of same.
Ensure doctors receive patient charts and schedules for hospital surgeries.
Clean and stock exam rooms.
Answer patient questions, including telephone inquiries.
Responsible for all clinic equipment; ensure it is functioning properly; request repairs and maintenance, as needed.
Ensure proper charting; act as a scribe

Education and
Experience:
1-3 Years of experience as an Ophthalmic Technician or Assistant with experience with Retina Speclialization including Perform OCT's, injection and eye laser set up, Tonometry, Fluorescein Angiograms (a plus) and Pre op's.
Education in the field of biology or medical field is helpful.

Travel:
It is necessary to travel and work in satellite offices including Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo and occasionnally Pismo Beach. Employees must maintain a valid driver's license, a legal and valid vehicle to drive, along with proof of insurance.

Compensation:
Salary is depending on experience $16-20
per hour. Generous benefit package is also included.
Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
